Fonzaleche, Rioja Alta — agricultural-engineer couple, pre-phylloxera revival.
Óscar Alegre and Eva Valgañón are agricultural engineers who met studying oenology in Italy and launched their Rioja project in 2014. Their family vineyards sit in Fonzaleche, a village of 80 people at the high, cool western edge of Rioja near the Obarenes Mountains. They release a Blanco and a Tinto outside the Crianza/Reserva system, working old-vine Tempranillo and Garnacha with whole-cluster fermentation and neutral barrels. US import: Polaner Selections.
